Baris Atik shot 1st FC Magdeburg in third place in the 2nd Bundesliga. The director marked both goals in the 2: 0 (2: 0) of the former European Cup winner over the previous third 1,1th FC Kaiserslautern. First he met in the 29th minute with a low shot in the far corner, then the native Palatinate surprised the entire Lauter back team with a long flank, which, to the delight of the 27,100 spectators, jumped into the goal after 43 minutes.
The break management of the home side was absolutely deserved, especially since Magdeburg left three very good options unused before the 1-0. From Kaiserslautern there was little to see in the first half.

That changed after the break. The guests became more active, pressed higher and thus caused problems in the Magdeburg game structure. The biggest way to connect was awarded to Ragnar Ache (54.), who was just past the empty goal after FCM goalkeeper Dominik Reimann had changed the ball against Kenny Redondo outside the penalty area. Magdeburg now relied on defending the advantage and counterattack, which, however, were not played clean.

Elversberg embarrassed Jahn Regenburg

SV Elversberg has impressively returned to the promotion race with a winning victory and strengthened relegation concerns at the bottom of the table Jahn Regensburg. The Saarlanders came to a clear 6: 0 (3: 0) on matchday 28 and, as the sixth in the table, are only two points behind the promotion relegation place.

Tom Zimmerschied in the 13th minute, Carlo Sickinger (36th) with a converted penalty, Fisnik Asllani with a double pack (43./87.), Semih Sahin (57th) and Robin Fellhauer (65th) scored the goals as the highest Elversberger second division victory in club history. For the promoted team from Regensburg, the immediate passage moves back into the third class. The gap to the saving bank is eight points.

Elversberg dominated the game and took the lead early. After a flat cross from Lukas Petkov, the completely free room was hit. Regensburg played properly, but was harmless in the attack. Elversberg was much more efficient and expanded the lead. Andreas Geipl blocked a shot from Zimmerschied in the penalty area with his hand, the penalty due to Sickinger converted.

And it came even worse for the bottom. First Frederic Ananou had to be injured from the field, then Elversberg’s goalkeeper Asllani scored by Zimmerschied from Nahdistanz after preparatory work. This made the game practically decided at the break. After the change, the home side, which were superior in all matters, remained concentrated and rewarded with three more hits.

Schalke is outnumbered against SSV Ulm

FC Schalke 04 has virtually saved with a happy 2: 1 (0: 1) against promoted SSV Ulm. Six game days before the end of the season, the team of coach Kees van Wonderen has now a ten points ahead of relegation rank 16. Paul Seguin (59th minute) equalized to the break by Felix Higl (40th). Marcin Kaminski (88th) was still late. Adrian Gantenbein had just seen the yellow-red card (86th).

The bravely fighting but playfully very limited Ulm missed 15th place and Eintracht Braunschweig to Preussen Münster in 16th place. With 23 points, the climber has four points behind this duo. Despite the victory, Schalke disappointed over long distances. Overall, the game took place at a rather moderate level. The guests were also offensive until Higl fell in front of his feet a ball performed by Oliver Batista Meier a few minutes before the break and the attacker Schalke keeper Justin Heekeren did not give a chance.

Heekeren stood in the goal for Loris Karius’ winter obligation. The former Liverpool goalkeeper can no longer play in the left calf because of a muscle injury. In the second round, hardly anything changed. The equalization fell out of nowhere after captain Kenan Karaman had served Seguin in the penalty area. The late win after a corner came as a surprise.
