Magdeburg dismantled Karlsruhe before the break

Magdeburg was the better team from the start and was already leading in the 7th minute. After a corner from the left, Jason Ceka passed Andreas Müller in the middle, whose shot was deflected from 20 meters and landed in the goal of goalkeeper Kai Eisele. In the meantime, KSC had the chance to equalise: Jerome Gondorf’s potentially decisive pass to Tim Rossmann was blocked by Magdeburg (21′).

Then Karlsruhe, which had already lost 5-0 at SC Paderborn on the first matchday, fell apart at times. Baris Atik scored in the 32nd minute with little resistance to make it 2-0 for Magdeburg, in the 34th minute Moritz Kwarteng followed up: Karlsruhe’s Daniel Gordon played his goalkeeper Eisele halfway up, who missed the pass – Kwarteng completed the 3-point score at the break: 0 for Magdeburg.

Catch-up comes too late

But Karlsruhe got back into the game: Simone Rapp failed because of Magdeburg’s goalkeeper Dominik Reimann. But then Marvin Wanitzek scored with a shot from 20 meters (63rd), Mikkel Kaufmann completed a counterattack to make it 2:3 (65th) – after the disastrous first half, KSC was suddenly only missing a goal.
