After three draws in a row, 1. FC Heidenheim won again in the 2nd Bundesliga. With the 2:1 win over Hannover 96, Frank Schmidt’s team is back on the ranks of promotion.
Denis Thomalla (32nd minute) and Tim Kleindienst (61st) provided the well-deserved threesome on matchday 1 and are now fourth in the second division table. Cedric Teuchert’s goal (92′) came too late for Hannover 96 to avert the second defeat in a row.
Heidenheim’s pressing pays off
After about half an hour, Heidenheim’s aggressive pressing was successful: 96 keeper Ron-Robert Zieler played the ball flat from the edge of the penalty area to Besuschkow in the center, but Heidenheim’s Thomalla intervened. He then shot the bouncing ball from 25 meters over the target far in front of the goal into the net (32′).
As a result, the 96ers hardly got into the last third – the pressing of the hosts made things difficult for the North Germans. And so the FCH also had further chances and went into the dressing room with a well-deserved lead.
Kleindienst with the preliminary decision
In the second round the game was less one-sided – Hannover came into play better. The second goal of the day therefore came a little out of nowhere – albeit with the friendly help of the 96 defence. A long ball landed in the completely abandoned Kleindienst, who ran towards Zieler and didn’t give the former international goalkeeper a chance (61′).
However, Hannover did not let this deter them, became bolder and played forward. But the reward came too late: Teuchert already had a lot of space on the left wing after the end of regulation time and was able to penetrate the penalty area. With a precise flick, he put the ball into the far corner to make it 1-2 (92′).
