2 arrests in large burglary file
The arrests came after an investigation by the Federal Judicial Police of West Flanders. The FGP started a file following a series of house burglaries during the day in the south of West Flanders.
It soon became clear that the gang was committing thefts throughout Flanders. The suspects always moved in the same car and focused on breaking cylinder locks to enter the home. The loot mainly consisted of jewellery, watches, perfumes and cash.
During the arrests, loot from recent burglaries and burglary material was found in the car trunk and in a backpack. The necessary steps will be taken with the Ghent police to return the stolen goods to their rightful owners.
The gang, based in Spain, always operated for a few weeks from the Charleroi region. Their residence was searched in collaboration with the Charleroi judicial police. Items that may have come from previous thefts were also found there.
The two suspects of Spanish-Algerian nationality were interrogated yesterday. Today they appear before the investigating judge in Kortrijk. The West Flemish investigators are continuing the investigation because they may be able to link even more facts to the perpetrator group.
