99 housing associations, healthcare institutions, market parties and citizen initiatives will receive a contribution from the Ministries of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK) and Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) to create 195 additional meeting rooms for the elderly. They do this with a contribution from the Incentive Scheme for Meeting Spaces in Housing for the Elderly (2023).
To ensure that elderly people continue to live well in the future, an appropriate housing supply is needed. More and more elderly people want to live in clusters: in close proximity to each other, because mobility is decreasing and with the opportunity to meet each other. The government encourages the construction and realization of meeting spaces in clustered housing with this scheme. This makes it easier for the elderly to continue living independently, to meet each other and to help.
The Incentive Scheme for Meeting Spaces in Housing for the Elderly (SOO) enables initiators to use the financial compensation from the scheme to cover the construction costs for realizing meeting spaces for the elderly. The allocation from the first (2022) and this second tranche of the SOO (2023) will result in a total of approximately 19,000 homes with a meeting space.
The SOO was drawn up by the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) and is implemented by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). A total of €26 million was available for this round of the scheme (2023).
