Large-scale operation for the Berlin fire brigade: in the midday hours of Saturday, the emergency services were called to a fire on the site of the former Tegel airport.
At 12.20 p.m. the first emergency call was received by the control center, witnesses had observed a dense cloud of smoke over Tegel. As the police announced on request, there were electric vehicles outside a building. These had ignited for reasons that have not yet been clarified.
A spokesman for the fire brigade reported a little later that a total of 130 e-scooters and 60 e-bikes were on fire. The fire was quickly extinguished. people were not injured.
The vehicles would have been stored there for assembly purposes in a rented part of the airport. Neither the scooters nor the bicycles were equipped with a battery at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is now being investigated by the police. A total of 50 firefighters were deployed.
