The accident happened this morning at 8.15 am in Roterijstraat. The 18-year-old cyclist was riding on the cycle path towards the center of Waregem when he was hit by a truck that turned right. The victim was taken to the AZ Groeninge in Kortrijk in a critical condition. The 43-year-old truck driver from Mechelen is in shock.
“A traffic expert was appointed,” said the West Flanders public prosecutor’s office. “The results of this investigation confirm that the boy was riding on the cycle path and was grabbed by a truck that wanted to enter the business park from the public road. The boy is still in critical condition.”
