The former site of former football club BSV Bergen on Oudtburghweg is currently being prepared for the reception of 175 asylum seekers. That reports media partner Alkmaar Central. The municipality of Bergen offers this to reduce the reception problems at the application center in Ter Apel in Groningen. The shelter is for three months and lasts until December 1. “Crisis relief is of course not ideal, but we are doing what we can,” says Mayor Lars Voskuil.
The crisis emergency shelter is about the size of one football field. Various winter-resistant pavilions will be placed on a paved surface with separate sleeping areas, each with six beds, sanitary facilities and a central area where people can stay during the day.
At the pavilions, part of the ground will be paved, so that the children can play there and the adults have a place to sit outside. The pavilions can be heated.
September 8
The reception location on the former fields of BSV will open on 8 September. After that, another municipality has to take over the baton again, if the problems in Ter Apel have not yet been solved.
“We are working very hard to be able to fully receive everyone in Ter Apel as soon as possible,” Alet Bouwmeester of the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers told earlier. NH News. “But right now we can’t do without emergency shelter.”
The municipality of Heiloo considers it important that asylum seekers in Ter Apel are well received and therefore was the first to offer a temporary reception location. Then Alkmaar followed and now it’s Bergen’s turn.
“The situation in Ter Apel is dire. We collectively have a moral obligation to offer protection to people who are looking for safety. Crisis emergency shelter is of course not ideal, but we do what we can to ensure the best possible stay for the people who come. to proceed,” says Mayor Lars Voskuil.
‘Heart warming’
He indicates that in the past period many residents of Bergen have committed themselves in various ways to refugees from Ukraine. “We find that heartwarming and sincerely hope that this temporary emergency solution can also count on support from the community of Bergen.”
Next Tuesday at 7 pm there will be an information meeting for councilors and local residents in the new multifunctional center De Beeck. For a daytime activity for the asylum seekers, an appeal is made to volunteers from the Mons society. They can register via [email protected].
