16 years old, no driver’s license, and 130 km per hour in zone 50

Yesterday around 1 pm, an anonymous motorbike from the police noticed that a driver had a rather strange driving style in the center of Roeselare. The car stopped repeatedly and then accelerated hard, skidding around bends, endangering pedestrians and cyclists present. The motorcyclist was able to pull the vehicle over, but when he wanted to step towards the vehicle, the driver fled. This was followed by a chase in the city center of Roeselare in which the vehicle committed a total of 21 traffic violations, ranging from ignoring traffic signs, endangering other road users, ignoring red traffic lights and excessive speed. At one point the driver was driving 130 km per hour where only 50 km per hour is allowed.

The car was eventually brought to a stop. Three youths immediately jumped out of the car and fled. The driver remained in the car. It turned out that he was only 16 years old and therefore driving around without a driver’s license. He had borrowed a cousin’s vehicle. The driver will have to appear before a police judge. In the meantime, the three young people who fled have also been identified. They also turned out to be minors (16 years, 16 years and 15 years).
