16-year-old dancer injured by flare on Blankenberge beach
The traditional sea blessing in Blankenberge used to mean the start of the bathing season. The Eucharistic celebration can count on many spectators every year.
This morning around 10.50 am it went wrong: a dancer got a flare on her leg out of nowhere. Rescuers lit those torches, but in principle they should be hand tail lights. Due to a misunderstanding, a rescuer got a real fire arrow in his hands, which he also lit.
The girl had a wound on her thigh and was taken to hospital.
