The plane arrived at Erbil airport, the capital of the autonomous region in northern Iraq, around 2 a.m. local time. The victims were transferred to ambulances leaving the airport to transport them to their home cities in Kurdistan. The repatriation was previously postponed twice.
In addition to the sixteen Kurds from Iraq, there were also a Kurd from Iran, three Ethiopians, a Somali woman, four Afghans and an Egyptian among the victims.
