16 dead in bus accident with migrants in Nicaragua | Abroad

The accident happened at an intersection of the Pan-American highway in Esteli department, when a bus collided with two cars. “Sixteen people have died, including five women and 11 men. Thirteen victims are of Venezuelan nationality, one is Nicaraguan and two have not been identified,” the police said in a statement.

The driver himself was unharmed and was taken into custody. “Due to the collision and the excessive speed, the bus driver lost control of the steering wheel and the bus plunged into a ravine,” the police said.

The bus ran between Managua and Jalapa, a municipality near Nicaragua’s northern border with Honduras, which is used by Latin American migrants trying to reach the United States via Mexico.
