The usual presentation to the press of the traditional FIBA porteño did not take place. Perhaps due to the experience of last year, when only two national media outlets were present at the launch of the programming, or perhaps due to the extreme prevention in the face of the rise in coronavirus cases. The truth is that this year the mail was used to publicize the profuse number of activities that will take place from Friday, February 25 to Sunday, March 6, always with free admission and prior reservation through the Vivamos page. Culture (vivamoscultura.buenosaires.gob.ar).
Throughout those ten days there will be a total of 275 functions and activities in 45 venues. With 1,100 artists on stage, the International Festival of Buenos Aires It will take place in theaters, cultural spaces, non-conventional places and places in the open air. According to those responsible for the broadcast, the ambitious bet has a generous official budget of $30,000,000.
“FIBA is a unique opportunity to explore new ways of experiencing theatre, music and dance. It is a pride of the city of Buenos Aires and this year we have the joy of returning in a version that integrates not only mixed modes of representation, but also new spaces and technologies. FIBA will make us think about a future that is already looming”, he explained Enrique Avogadro, Minister of Culture of the City.
Appreciations about the city
Since its inception in 1997, the Buenos Aires International Festival has been a biannual exhibition space for the most important expressions of contemporary performing art from here and from around the world. In the last editions it was decided to carry it out every year, during the summer.
“The festival weaves together a sum of projects to observe what of everything that has been experienced in recent years has had an impact on the scene as much as to modify it, what are some of the transforming social policies that the scene is carrying out and how to continue multiplying the points of view on the city, while also looking very carefully at the ways in which it has generated its own theatricality”, says Federico Irazábal, researcher, theater critic and artistic director of the meeting.
As happened many times, the opening day will be in the street, with the aim that the largest number of attendees allows the degree of convening of the event to be made visible. heThe chosen place will be the pedestrian Florida, in its encounter with Lavalle. Thus, next Friday the 25th that sector of the downtrodden Buenos Aires downtown will revive and see its usual tranquility altered from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., with the participation of the rhythmic improvisation band The big one, directed by Santiago Vázquez. Theatrical interventions by Mike Amigorena, Muriel Santa Ana, Alejandra Radano, Carlos Casella and Amal will be added. There will also be DJs Anita B Queen and Lolo Gasparini together with a group of performers who promise to “provide color and energy”. The artistic coordination of the FIBA starting point will be in charge of Los Pipis, a company formed by Matías Milanese and Federico Lehmann.
The closing of activities will be on Sunday 6 at the Colosseum theater, with “Requiem, the last tape”, by the Krapp group. Here the Argentine company, with 21 years of experience, will offer an anthology of songs from its works in the key of a performance concert.
