15 years of Google Street View: the craziest photos and most visited places in Belgium and the world | Tech

TechGoogle Street View turns 15 tomorrow. During that time, Google cameras took more than 220 billion photos to visualize our environment in 360 degrees. But which places are most viewed now? And do you remember these embarrassing and funny pictures?

Visualizing our entire world at street level was the idea of Google founder Larry Page. To do that, a special camera built, which takes pictures all around 360 degrees. In 2006, the first car with this device took to the track. And a year later – on May 25, 2007 – Street View was officially launched in the United States.

Most visited places in Belgium

Street View quickly became very popular, even though in the beginning it was only possible to walk through American streets. It came to our country in 2011. It is definitely one of the most visited places in our country Atomium in Brussels† The Large market in our capital and the Royal Palace – which, by the way, has been blurred – complete the top-3.

Fifteen years of Street View also means embarrassing, funny or weird photos for the same amount of time. Because what if Google’s car drives by and you’re just in a pink carriage on the way to you wedding party† It happened to this couple near London.

Street View regularly submits violations from motorists and pedestrians. Fortunately, they are made unrecognizable, so that they do not immediately have to fear a fine. But it also happens that the Google driver puts himself in a difficult position. In this Scottish zone 30 the Google employee himself pushes the accelerator a little too deeply.

Also special works of art are captured for eternity by the Street View cars. This is one for the ‘Star Wars’ fans: an AT-AT walker in North Carolina, USA.

The Google cars are also sometimes faster on the scene than the fire brigade. Here a camera car drives past a burning house in Arkansas (USA).

And every now and then one Street View car drives past the other. It is a rare eventbut makes for a nice photo.

This man seems to have a similar problem. But Joshua – a bartender – told afterwards that he had to replace a keg of beer. Unfortunately that went wrong, causing his pants full of drink hung. In an effort to dry it, he stood outside in the sun just as Google passed by. You’ll just have it.
