SM league club Rauman Lukko has acquired a goalkeeper between the posts by Christopher Gibsonthe club informs on its website.

Gibson, 30, has signed a contract with Luko covering the rest of the season.

– I do not take this opportunity for granted and I will work hard with my teammates to bring success to Luko. There are no familiar teammates in the current team, but I have played against a few in the AHL, Gibson commented in the press release.

A long tour

Gibson is a product of Espoo Jäähonga, but left for the Canadian junior leagues when he was still young. Gobson has spent fifteen seasons in North American rinks.

He got to play 16 NHL games in goal for the New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning. For the most part, he played in the AHL.

Gibson gets to play in Finland and Europe as a professional for the first time in his career. He was last seen in Finland when he played in the Blues’ U16 team in the 2007–2008 season.

– As a young boy, I went to watch Liiga, so now it’s nice to come back to Finland to play. A bigger rink is definitely the biggest thing to get used to. In addition, I have heard that the game in the League is more tactical than in North America, where the game is quite straightforward, says Gibson.

Luko’s goalkeeper coach Mikael Vuorio describes Gibson as a big and stocky goalkeeper.

– His fighting style is calm and very covering, Vuorio said.

At the same time, Lukko said that Samuel Harvey leaves the Romanian team. The reason for the Canadian keeper’s departure is family matters.

Harvey, 25, moved to Lukko this season and has played in 25 regular season games with a save percentage of 89.9.
