Bang in the Austrian Bundesliga! During a routine test for the corona virus, 15 people from the team and support team at RB Salzburg tested positive. All are already in quarantine, some actors are suffering from “rather mild symptoms”. The club announced this on Wednesday.
The flood of cases has a direct impact on the planning of the Austrian industry leader, who will be visiting Bayern Munich in the second leg of the Champions League on March 8th (first leg 1-1).
The training sessions scheduled for Wednesday have already been replaced by a “home program”. “In addition, the team and staff will be continuously testing in the next few days,” the men from the city of Mozart announce on “redbullsalzburg.at“.
In addition, the “hygiene and safety measures around the team would be reinforced” and all public training sessions would be canceled.
The effects on the upcoming games in the Alpine Republic’s Bundesliga against Linzer ASK (February 27) and SCR Altach (March 5) and on the cup duel against Wolfsberger AC (March 2) cannot yet be fully foreseen.
The consequences for the game against FC Bayern are not yet foreseeable
“We are currently still ready to train and play. But we now have to monitor the further development of the uninfected players very closely in coordination with our medical department and react to them if necessary,” explained sports director Christoph Freund.
Should further cases arise, it cannot be ruled out that the Austrian league leaders will not be able to travel to FC Bayern with their best squad.
The situation is at least not completely new for the Red Bulls: in January, Salzburg had to cancel their training camp due to six positive cases.
Among others, the German goalkeepers Nico Mantl and Alexander Walke as well as the German national player Karim Adeyemi, who is treated as a hot summer signing at Borussia Dortmund, play in Salzburg.
