13,500 drivers drive through a car-free zone in Blankenberge

In the summer of 2022, approximately 22,000 cars drove through the car-free center, although this was only reported from August.

On average this summer there were 200 violations per day. Blankenberge already introduced car-free traffic in the center last summer. At that time there were retractable posts that prevented you from entering the car-free zone. But those posts are broken and according to the mayor it is too expensive to repair them. The opposition wants better signaling.
