An absolute highlight is coming out as a Nintendo Switch game in April! Previously only available on PlayStation 4, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Run is best known for its rich and compelling story. All about the launch, the game itself, and what to expect from the Switch release.
The Nintendo Switch can now look back on a number of successful years. Especially the flexible hybrid model of the “big” Nintendo Switch, which allows both stationary and mobile games with the handheld version, convinces users worldwide. Nintendo was also able to build up a good reputation as a platform for indie games, so that the Switch is considered a console on which you can still discover a number of insider tips. One could also describe “13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim” as such. The title already exists for the PlayStation 4 and is now appearing for the Nintendo console.
When is 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim coming to Switch?
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is a real-time strategy and adventure game from the Japanese developer studio Vanillaware. The company is best known for its Dragon’s Crown title.
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim was released for the PlayStation 4 in 2019 and received good reviews across the board. There was even a surprising nomination at the Game Awards 2020 in the category “Best Narrative”; the game had to admit defeat to the overwhelming “The Last of Us Part II”. So far, however, there has been no great success, which is not least due to the lack of availability. Now the title will be released for the Nintendo Switch on April 12th, making it accessible to a much larger audience.

This is what 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is all about
A group of teenagers live in the fictional town of Ashitaba, Japan. One of them is Juro Kurabe, who suddenly has dreams about the future of the city, which is being threatened by large machines called kaijus. When some of his classmates have the same dreams, in which they fight the Kaijus with the help of gigantic mechs, the Sentinels, it becomes clear that these are visions that are partly set in the past and partly in the future.
The extremely captivating storyline is told from the perspective of all 13 teenagers, with important new information to be discovered in each storyline. Not only do the narrative perspectives overlap, but also the time levels. The action is mainly set in 1985, but at times important events also take place in World War II or at the end of the 22nd century – “Dark” says hello.
Each chapter has exciting twists and turns and you have to be careful to bring all the important information together. The beautifully drawn 2D game world and the music do the rest to let the star of the game work: the story. In addition to the story mode, Nintendo Switch players can look forward to real-time tactical battles with 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. Both the Sentinels themselves and the city’s supercomputer to be protected can be constantly upgraded. This mix of visual novel and tactical RPG has already convinced many on the PS4.
What can we expect from the release?
So far, “13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim” has existed as a niche title, which was probably mainly due to the fact that the game was only accessible to a limited extent. The Switch version now promises a lot: On the one hand, both the story and the real-time strategy mode are excellent for controlling the Nintendo console. On the other hand, there is little comparable on the switch, even if certain elements are reminiscent of titles like “Octopath Traveler” – of course with much more detailed and beautiful graphics!
A few new features have also been announced for the Switch version. For example, each of the 13 protagonists gets new weapon and armor parts. If you look at the reactions that followed the release announcement, they are almost universally positive. In this still young 2022, the vanillaware game stands out as a novelty on the console so far. The rating comparison alone proves this: Well-known industry portals such as Metacritic, Nintendo Life or Game Pro all give high marks of around nine stars or 90 points. So if you haven’t had “13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim” for the Nintendo Switch on your screen before, we warmly recommend the game from April 12th.
