13 percent of drivers blow positive at Kortemark check
Between 1:30 and 3:00, police officers from the Polder police zone stopped motorists on the Staatsbaan in Kortemark. Young drivers in particular ran into trouble. One in their forties, four in their thirties and two in their twenties ran into the lamp.
Ten glasses
The most inexperienced offender was only 21 years old and blew 1.05 mg/l, the equivalent of 2.4 per mille. That is roughly equivalent to ten glasses of alcohol, while a male driver can only have a maximum of two. The man received a probation suspension from the judge last summer, which means that he should not undergo a sentence as long as he respected the conditions. He had to hand in his driver’s license for 15 days.
Some other drivers who had drunk too much also lost their driving license for half a month. The other penalties consist of amicable settlements or a fine. Polder police zone states that they will continue to check daily for drunk driving.
