Barcelona suffered a terrible 3-5 home defeat to Villarreal last Sunday.
After the match, the head coach Xavi announced his resignation after this season.
Tens of thousands of disappointed Barça supporters left the 1992 Olympic stadium.
However, there was one happy Finnish boy among them.
12-year-old from Siilinjärvi Lauri Vehviläinen had been able to spend a moment with Barcelona’s first team.
– Joao Felix was there just before the start of the match, Vehviläinen now recounts his unique experience.
The Portuguese star previously played for Chelsea and speaks fluent English. However, he didn’t really get excited about deep discussions during the match.
– The situation was over quite quickly. It was in that team picture after which he started playing.
“Nice experience”
Vehviläinen had a lot to tell his friends when he returned to school from the beginning of the week.
– It was a nice experience.
In the current team, a player only five years older than Vehvilai has become a favorite Lamine Yamalwho has already broken into the Spanish national team as well.

Another 17-year-old super talent made his debut in the Villarreal match, Hector Fort. When the defender grows into the next world star, Vehviläinen got to share his big moment on the same lawn.
– It feels good. Barcelona is my favorite team, Vehviläinen assures.
The charity organization under the wing of the Catalan giant had turned its attention to a boy from Savoia fighting cancer in the beginning of 2023.
An important trip
By the time he set off, Vehviläinen had already won his most important struggle. Everything from here on was just a plus.
– Lauri’s condition is as good as it can be. When that diagnosis came, we didn’t really have any expectations. It was a long time before we knew if the boy would be spared, let alone his leg where the cancer was, mother Elina Eklund recounted the nightmare that started in the fall of 2022.
Lauri had a rare cancerous tumor: synovial sarcoma. In the end, the trip to Barcelona became an important symbol for the whole family.

The boy was already moving there completely without help.
– I guess there really couldn’t be a better outcome here.
FC Barcelona is probably going through the most difficult period in its history. The club is in a really bad financial situation, there are serious doubts about the bribery of the judges and now even after Xavi’s decision, the team is completely in the wind in terms of sports.
Yet it still wants to take good care of the children.
– In general, the whole opportunity to get to the match and then of course the fact that Lauri got to meet the players, Eklund thanks the human side of the big club.
