A Volvo with a Polish license plate swerved across the road in Hilvarenbeek this afternoon, the police said. An officer, who was not at work, signaled his colleagues who then chased the driver.
The man stopped when asked to do so by the police. When they spoke to him, officers quickly smelled alcohol. The trunk also appeared to be full of cans of beer. A breath test confirmed the suspicion: the man had drunk too much. He was taken to the station. He was fined for driving under the influence, but was allowed to keep his driver’s license.
During the search, the man also turned out to have pepper spray with him, and he also received a fine for that. His car ultimately turned out not to be registered, he could not prove who owned the car. The car will be destroyed.
