A chimney fire on the Ariane in Heeze, late last night, seemed to be a simple job, but has become a time-consuming and strenuous activity. On arrival there was a lot of smoke coming from the chimney.
The fire brigade wanted to sweep the chimney with a ramoneur and thus extinguish the fire. Such a ramoneur consists of a number of pieces of steel chain, with pieces of angle iron at the end to pry loose soot and coal residues. Cleaning ended up taking nearly two hours.
Despite being swept a week earlier, the chimney flue had been badly affected. The duct will have to be properly inspected before the chimney can be used again. In extinguishing the fire, the Heeze fire brigade received help from colleagues from Eindhoven.
