Police have arrested a man and a woman in an investigation into the illegal trade of young dogs. The duo is said to have resold dozens of Pomeranian puppies in more than a year, which mainly came from Eastern Europe and were in poor health.
The police discovered the case after a report from animal welfare organization House of Animals. The 26-year-old man from Best and the 20-year-old woman from the municipality of Hoogeveen in Drenthe sold the animals via Marktplaats with different user names.
The two were arrested in their homes on Wednesday morning, the police reported. A seriously ill puppy was found.
