A car caught fire on the A2 near Budel. While driving, the car gave a malfunction message. The driver parked his vehicle in the hard shoulder, where it caught fire. The driver and his passenger were able to get themselves to safety behind the crash barrier and also managed to save personal belongings in time.
The Maarheeze fire brigade came to the scene, but could not prevent the vehicle from burning out completely. A tow truck was called to tow the vehicle.
Other traffic was able to pass the site of the car fire via the left lane; the right lane was temporarily closed. This caused a traffic jam in the direction of travel from Eindhoven to Maarheeze from exit Valkenswaard to exit Budel.
