The police conducted a traffic stop in the city center of Helmond on Thursday. A total of 109 fines were issued. For example, 24 people held their phones while driving, 12 cyclists had no lights and eleven people ran red lights. The police also handed out fines for illegal parking, driving without a driver’s license and urinating in public.
Three drivers have been arrested for driving under the influence. Two of them were under the influence of alcohol. They had drunk more than twice the legal limit. Their driver’s licenses have been confiscated. The third driver was under the influence of cannabis. The tax authorities have also seized five vehicles and collected a total of more than 67 thousand euros in outstanding tax debts. A driver was arrested because he appeared to still have an outstanding prison sentence of 11 days.
