An 11-year-old survivor of the horrific shooting at an Uvalde elementary school, Texas, smeared himself with the blood of a dead classmate and pretended to be dead to hide from the gunman. That’s what Miah Cerrillo told CNN.
The girl, who is too afraid to talk to men, told the US news channel that she and a friend used a dead teacher’s cell phone to call for help when the 18-year-old gunman killed 19 young children and two teachers on the street. her school. It is the first testimony from a survivor of one of the worst mass shootings in the US.
The child, whose hair has been falling out since the massacre, told how gunman Salvador Ramos made eye contact with a teacher as he made his way through her classroom. He then said “good night” and shot and killed the teacher before firing his rifle at the other co-worker and many of Miah’s classmates.
Ramos went to another classroom where terrified children screamed as he shot them before playing loud, sad music, Miah told CNN. She and a friend grabbed their dead teacher’s cell phone and called 911: “Please come… we’re in trouble.”
Miah, who has been treated for head and shoulder injuries, was so worried that the gunman would return that she dipped her hands in a dead classmate’s blood and smeared it on herself. Then she lay motionless, waiting for help, which she felt came hours later.
Her mother has placed an appeal on the Internet to help her pay for medical and psychological help for Miah. The goal was to raise $10,000, but more than 270,000 have already been raised.
