Jonas Vingegaard has to continue defending his yellow jersey without two prominent helpers at the Tour de France.
The Slovene Primoz Roglic, who was originally intended to be the captain, did not compete in the 15th stage from Rodez to Carcassonne. During the race, the Dutchman Steven Kruijswijk, after all third in the 2019 tour, had to give up after a fall. But things didn’t go smoothly for Vingegaard either. The man in yellow also fell about 60 kilometers from the finish, but was able to catch up with the field.
As in the previous year, Roglic had to retire early due to the consequences of a fall. The Olympic time trial champion fell on stage five and dislocated his shoulder. Roglic put his shoulder back in place and continued the run. However, the hope of the first overall victory on the tour was gone due to the loss of time. Roglic used himself as a helper for leader Vingegaard, but was now apparently at the end of his strength. The three-time Vuelta winner was already left behind on the way to Mende on Saturday and lost about twelve minutes to the favorites.
