Luxury streetwear label 1017 Alyx 9SM, co-founded by Givenchy creative director Matthew M. Williams, has secured investment from Hong Kong entrepreneur Adrian Cheng.
His label is entering into a “strategic business partnership” with Cheng, who serves as managing director of Hong Kong-based real estate development group New World Development Company, Williams said in a statement.
Williams added that the deal underscores Cheng’s commitment to “supporting innovative designers who are redefining the boundaries of fashion” and allowed 1017 Alyx 9SM to continue to grow with new channels and products to “extend the status to challenge the “quo of creative, technological and cultural conventions”. However, the terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In 2015, the self-taught artist, who was born in Chicago and grew up in California, founded 1017 ALYX 9SM together with the American designer Luca Benini, the founder of the Italian street brand distributor Slam Jam. The label started as a womenswear label before branching out into menswear and now offers ready-to-wear, accessories and footwear collections, as well as collaborations with brands such as Nike, Dior, Moncler and Mackintosh.
