100-year-old man scammed by fake bank employee

The lady was allegedly called by KBC around 3 p.m. yesterday. A scammer tried to convince her that a purchase of 600 euros was considered a suspicious transaction. That’s why someone would come by to activate cardstop. A little later, a Dutch-speaking young man indeed knocked on the door. The fake bank employee asked for her bank card, but the victim did not respond. Then she came to report the facts herself at the reception of the police station.

A little later, the police received a similar report from a 100-year-old man from Koksijde. The victim had been approached in the same way by a bank about the alleged suspicious transactions. Also in this case, a fake bank employee came by to help him activate cardstop. On site, the young man checked the balance of the Koksijde resident with a card reader. In addition, 2,400 euros was transferred to an unknown account. The suspect also took the victim’s bank card with him, allegedly to destroy the card.

According to the West Coast Police Department, both offenses were committed by a young man of about 30 years old with tawny skin. The suspect has shaved short curly hair, is about 1.70 meters tall and has a stout build. “If you receive such telephones, it is best to inform the police immediately by telephone. A team will always be sent to the scene immediately,” it sounds.
