Next summer, FC Bayern could go on a shopping spree, the squad is literally crying out for a rejuvenation treatment. According to a report, a young Portuguese plays an important role in Munich’s plans.
This refers to António Silva from Benfica SL, who has fought for a regular place in the central defense of the traditional Lisbon club.
As the Portuguese daily “Record” has learned, the 20-year-old is a hot topic at FC Bayern. Scouts from the Bundesliga club have been there several times to get an idea of the defensive jewel’s abilities.
The German football record champions could allegedly start talks with Silva and his entourage in the next few months.
Since the defensive specialist is tied to Benfica until 2027, FC Bayern would have to dig deep into their pockets to make a transfer possible. Silva’s contractual exit clause is a mere 100 million euros.
In addition to the Munich team, Manchester United is also said to have kept an eye on the shooting star. Paris Saint-Germain has also already appeared in the rumor mill.
FC Bayern: Who would have to give way for António Silva?
In the current season, Silva has played 35 competitive games for Benfica and scored two goals. Under German coach Roger Schmidt, the homegrown player, who has been playing for the club since the U15 level, is a constant.
The highly gifted right-footer has also already played for the Portuguese senior national team and has seven international matches on his resume so far.
It is unclear which central defender Silva would replace at FC Bayern. All central defenses should be up for debate in the summer; the performances of Matthijs de Ligt, Dayot Upamecano, Min-jae Kim and Eric Dier were too inconsistent in the new year.
Silva is significantly younger than the existing staff and could initiate the planned change in the back line. There are exciting months ahead for FC Bayern.
