1 in 3 worried about finances: ABVV sounds the alarm

Slightly more than a third of West Flemish people experience fear because of their financial situation. This is evident from figures from socialist trade union ABVV West Flanders. Two out of five indicate that they make ends meet every month, but that they cannot save anything. One in five even has to use savings to pay for health or car insurance, for example.

Shop consciously

Shopping has also become a lot more expensive. Traders notice that people are shopping more consciously. For example, they only buy one piece instead of three. Wages may rise along with the index, but this often happens later, which means that people still lose purchasing power.

The survey also shows that only 57% of those surveyed own their own home. This puts West Flanders below the Flemish average of 72%.
