As expected, Bundesliga soccer team FSV Mainz 05 will continue to rely on Jan Siewert in the coaching bench in the new year.
As the club announced on Friday, the 41-year-old will be promoted from interim to permanent solution.
“We analyzed the sporting situation in great detail and in depth and gave ourselves the necessary time to do so,” said sports director Christian Heidel.
“We are convinced that with Jan Siewert we will achieve our sporting goal of staying in the league and that we have made the best decision for Mainz 05.”
At the beginning of November, Siewert took over from the resigned Bo Svensson and stabilized the relegation candidate somewhat, especially defensively.
In seven games under his direction there was only one win, but at the same time only two defeats with a total of seven points. The recent 1-1 draw at Borussia Dortmund also spoke for Siewert.
