National player of Denmark
7:30 p.m. update: After the rumors about Bochum goalkeeper Michael Esser, 1. FC Nürnberg has found a solution for the vacant position in the goal due to injury. As Transfermarkt initially reported under Information from the Netherlands and the “Club” confirmed a little later, Danish international Peter Vindahl is coming on loan from AZ Alkmaar until the end of the season. The Franconians had previously signed winger Benjamin Goller from Werder Bremen and six Florian Flick from Schalke 04.
Dieter Hecking, Sport Board Member at 1. FC Nürnberg, said of the transfer: “Due to Christian Mathenia’s injury-related absence, there was a gap in our goalkeepers that we have now closed. I’m very happy that we found such a good solution in such a short time.” Sporting director Olaf Rebbe said: “Peter Vindahl Jensen has shown his potential in his previous positions and in the Danish national team. After Chris’ bitter absence, Peter will continue to maintain the high level of performance in our goalkeeping team around goalkeeping coach Dennis Neudahm.”

Vindahl has been an issue in Nuremberg since it became known in mid-November that Christian Mathenia was out for an indefinite period with a shoulder injury. In the team of coach Markus Weinzierl, he is now facing competition with Carl Klaus (28) and Jan Reichert (21).
About a year and a half ago, Alkmaar transferred 1.8 million euros for Vindahl to FC Nordsjaelland, where the 1.95 meter goalkeeper turned professional in 2016. After being a regular at Eredivisie club last season, he has lost his place to Hobie Verhulst (29) this season. Previously, Vindahl was still a regular member of the Danish national team and would have gone to Qatar for the World Cup if he had retained his place. Ultimately, behind regular Kasper Schmeichel (36), the Berlin Bundesliga keeper Oliver Christensen (23; Hertha) and Frederik Rönnow (30; Union) secured the places in the squad.
