Storm jewel Can Uzun has already provided some top results for 1. FC Nürnberg in his first full professional season. The shooting star is, among other things, the fourth-youngest debutant and second-youngest goalscorer in the club’s history – and recently also the second-youngest second division player with ten goals at the age of 18 years, two months and 23 days.
Uzun new in second place: Youngest second division player with 10 goals
A reading in the Transfermarkt database showed that in the single-track 2nd league, when the first ten goals were reached, only Olaf Thon, then in the employ of Schalke 04, was younger than the Nuremberg player, namely 17 years, eight months and 27 days. Uzun scored his ninth and tenth goals of the season in Franconia’s 2-2 draw against VfL Osnabrück on Saturday.
In addition to Uzun, for whom his new strike colleague Sebastian Andersson recently predicted “a great future” and who, with a market value of 8 million euros, is the joint most valuable professional in the German lower house, and Thon, there are other prominent names from the recent and older past on the list. For example, Kevin Volland (for 1860 Munich), Jürgen Klinsmann (for Stuttgarter Kickers), Pierre-Michel Lasogga (for Hertha BSC), Bruno Labbadia (for Darmstadt 98) and Lukas Podolski (for 1. FC Köln) are also among the top -10. All of them scored their first ten second division goals before their 20th birthday. A total of 14 players have achieved this in history – before Uzun, the last time before Uzun was Erik Shuranov in the 2021/22 season, also a Nuremberg player.
