Root left-back injured
1. FC Nürnberg has announced their fourth external winter signing: left-back Jannes Horn (25) comes on loan from VfL Bochum from the Bundesliga. In return, striker Manuel Wintzheimer will temporarily join league rivals Eintracht Braunschweig.
Horn, with a market value of 1.8 million euros, will be the second most valuable player in the “Club” squad behind Lino Tempelmann (23) and Florian Flick (22), on loan from Schalke, should close the gap caused by Tim’s serious knee injuries Handwerker (24) and Erik Wekesser (25) tore. Born in Braunschweig, he only moved to Bochum in the summer after his contract with 1. FC Köln ended, but has only made three appearances since then.

“With Jannes Horn and Nene Brown we now have two trained left-backs, that was our goal. Since Jannes can also play in central defence, he gives us more options and is our logical and right choice,” emphasized Nuremberg’s sporting director Dieter Hecking. Sports director Olaf Rebbe said: “We have known Jannes for a very long time and have always followed his path. He will help us with his aggressive style of play, speed and versatility at left-back. I’m also convinced that he fits into our team very well as a guy. Jannes will not need a long period of adjustment. He has been fully involved in the preparations in Bochum so far and knows the 2nd division very well from his time in Hanover.”
Sports director Patrick Fabian spoke up from Bochum: “Jannes’ impressions from the past few weeks were very positive. We hope that the loan to Nuremberg will enable him to fully exploit his performance potential through regular appearances and we expect him to be back in good shape in the summer.” Horn’s contract at Castroper Strasse is valid until 2024.

Wintzheimer from 1. FC Nuremberg on loan to Eintracht Braunschweig
Striker Wintzheimer, on the other hand, is leaving the Franconians temporarily without a purchase option for match practice and is moving to the Braunschweig “Löwen”. Rebbe said of the ex-HSV professional who was tied until 2025: “Manuel approached us with the desire to increase his playing times. We can’t give him any guarantee for that at the moment. Since we have sufficient personnel in the offensive area, we have agreed to the change.”
In the first half of the season, Wintzheimer played 385 minutes in 13 competitive games, scoring one goal. In the Eintracht press release he said: “I am very happy to be here in Braunschweig and to be able to play for such a club. I’ve heard a lot of positive things and I’m really looking forward to the second half of the season. Of course, staying up in the league is the goal and I will do my best for that.”
Sport director Peter Vollmann said: “With Manuel we get another option right at the top, who has his qualities with his back to the goal, but can also go deep runs.”
Shortly after the first test match and before leaving for the training camp, there is another loan double pack:
