Cristian Fiel is the new head coach of the second division soccer team 1. FC Nürnberg with immediate effect. The 43-year-old replaces Dieter Hecking, who took over the post in February until the end of the season, but will now be working exclusively as the nine-time German champion’s sports director again.
The club had just averted the relegation on the last matchday.
Fiel most recently worked as Hecking’s assistant and was in charge of the Franconian U23s. He follows “a clear game philosophy. Cristian has the right mix of experience, emotional appeal and football expertise,” praised Hecking. Sports director Olaf Rebbe is hoping for a “fresh impulse” from the struggling old master.
Fiel, who was already in charge at Dynamo Dresden, feels “great anticipation for this challenge. I’m very keen to tackle this task with a lot of commitment.” Training starts at FCN on June 20th.
With Fiel, the club is hoping for more consistency again. Nuremberg employed three coaches last season: Hecking, Markus Weinzierl and Robert Klauß.
