Christian Mathenia has been in the Nürnberger Tor since 2018 and feels “at home in Middle Franconia”, as he reveals in “Blickpunkt Sport”. The keeper sees his club in the first division again in the future.
At some point the club should return to the first division, and goalkeeper Christian Mathenia is clear: “That’s where he belongs.” The Nurembergers still don’t want to hear anything about promotion, coach Robert Klauss and Mathenia emphasize much more “that the league is very balanced as in the last few years” and that promotion will be very difficult.
Restrained balance sheet
The club keeper is cautious about the record after the first three league games: “Yes, that’s okay. It could have been better, but it could also have been worse. I think that many teams would like to swap places with us at the moment. ” Nuremberg is currently eleventh in the table with four points.
Victory in the Franconia derby gives tailwind
Mathenia and his team have already scored the most important three of the first half of the season: “Of course it was extremely important for us to be able to win the derby, that made us very happy.” The Nuremberg team clearly won the Franconian derby against Greuther Fürth on the 2nd matchday, 2-0a relief for the goalkeeper and the fans: “For half a year it will definitely bring some peace, it was hard for many people that Fürth played in the first division, above the club.”
Team stands behind Tim Handwerker
The joy of the derby success was clouded after the Bayern duel against Regensburg, because the Glubberer could only take one point home and have to cope with the long absence of Tim Handwerker. “We will miss him a lot. Not only on the pitch but also in the dressing room, he is a very important contact for many players. In terms of quality, he is one of the best left-backs for me in the league,” explains Mathenia in Blickpunkt Sport and announces the full Support from the team for the team-mate: “We will now support him every day so that he can get back on the pitch as soon as possible”
Nuremberg is home
Christian Mathenia seems to have fully arrived at the Nuremberg team after four years: “When it came to playing with the ball, I tended to make wrong decisions in the past. I think I’ve taken the next step lately .” Sportingly it fits at FCN and also privately: “I feel very comfortable in Nuremberg. It’s just that my children were born there, that’s why it’s my home.”
