Magdeburg on the trigger – lions hold against it

It was clear from the start that neither team wanted to give up anything here. Magdeburg dominated the game, but the guests fought back with everything they had and made life difficult for FCM. Right after three minutes, the sixties had their first and only chance of the first 45 minutes. After a catastrophic mispass by Tobias Müller, Biankadi got into the shooting position from a good 17 meters and fired. Dominik Reimann in the FCM box reacted well and cleared the ball to a corner.

As a result, Magdeburg was on the offensive. Jason Ceka missed the first major chance after 16 minutes when he shot over the goal in the penalty area. The hosts then had the game in their hands, but failed to reward themselves. Obermair and Ceka had the best opportunity to lead with a double chance in the 38th minute. Obermair initially failed in a one-on-one against Löwen keeper Hiller, before Ceka put the follow-up shot to the inside post and the ball was finally cleared on the line by the sixties. So it went into the dressing room with a goalless draw.

Football festival in half time two

After the break, one would have expected the guests to gasp, who urgently needed a win. However, this did not happen. Magdeburg, on the other hand, started the scoring in the 51st minute through Amara Condé, who scored to make it 1-0 after a pass from Atik. A good 20 minutes later, the fans in the sold-out GETEC Arena were able to celebrate a second time. Substitute Ito made it 2-0 after a beautifully played attack, ending all hopes of the lions.

Later, while everyone was already waiting for the long-awaited final whistle, Baris Atik (90+1) scored his goal that afternoon. Substitute Moritz Kwarteng even made it 4-0 shortly afterwards, putting the end of the game. The lions can only reach fourth place in the league after the defeat. After the final whistle, the 1. FCM was ceremoniously presented with the trophy for the third division championship by DFB President Bernd Neuendorf.
