“Fits very well with our philosophy”
1. FC Magdeburg has presented the sixth new signing for the coming season. Central defender Jamie Lawrence comes on loan from FC Bayern II for two years, as the third division champions announced on Wednesday. At the same time, the 19-year-old extended his contract in Munich by two more seasons until 2026.
“Everyone wanted to get a player with a measure of strength. We did that by signing Jamie. But we don’t just get size. Jamie has very high footballing qualities, good structure-up play and therefore fits in very well with our philosophy,” said sports director Otmar Schork about the 2.00 meter tall newcomer. Coach Christian Titz added: “For us it was important to find a tall defender who is strong in the air and who can also defend high. Those are the attributes we see in Jamie.”
Born in Munich, Lawrence has been active for FC Bayern since 2017, where he has worked through all youth departments since the U16s. Last season he made 32 appearances in the Bayern Regionalliga (four goals, three assists). The U20 international also played once in the UEFA Youth League. “Jamie has made a promising development with us and recently even led our U23s onto the field as captain. We are convinced of his potential and that he has found the right club for the next few years in 1. FC Magdeburg,” says campus manager Jochen Sauer.
