FC contracts until 2023
Top scorer Anthony Modeste has also committed himself to 1. FC Köln for the coming season, the first in the European Cup since 2017/18. The 34-year-old’s contract expires in 2023. In view of the upper salary limit of – reportedly – 2 million euros planned by the new sports director Christian Keller and the striker’s desire to have early planning security for the coming years, there has been speculation about a possible change for a long time. However, Modeste said after the 0-1 draw against Wolfsburg on Saturday, quoted by “express‘: ‘Who said I was leaving the club? Nobody. I have a contract until 2023 and enjoy the time with my colleagues. That’s what I want.”
In March, Modeste told the newspaper: “I’m not that young anymore – my career will soon be over. That’s why I have to think about securing my family for the future. Yes, we footballers earn a lot of money, but not forever. There was an offer from Al-Hilal Riyadh in the winter, which Cologne rejected. With 37.3 percent of all Bundesliga goals for the billy goats, Modeste has the highest percentage of the 18 teams this season.

1. FC Köln: Salih Özcan confirms talks about a new contract
There have also been rumors of departure around midfielder Salih Özcan, also without a new contract from 2023. “Sport Bild” wrote last week about Borussia Dortmund’s interest in the 24-year-old – and that FC wanted to go to the maximum salary limit for the home-grown child. “We still have one game left, I still have a year of contract and talks are ongoing. We’ll see what happens in the end,” Özcan said.
Should the Turkish international decide to make a move, alternatives include Tom Krauss (contract with RB until 2025), loaned from RB Leipzig to Nuremberg, and Austria-Vienna loan Eric Martel (contract with RB until 2023).
