1. FC Köln threatens to leave the offensive star

Florian Kainz has been part of the permanent staff under coach Steffen Baumgart for a few months, but the Austrian’s future at 1. FC Köln is uncertain. The Rhinelanders simply lack the financial leeway in the contract negotiations.

Florian Kainz’s working paper at 1. FC Köln expires at the end of June. According to information from “Bild”, talks between the club and the 29-year-old offensive player have been stalled for some time because the salary expectations of both parties are far apart.

The tabloid estimates Kainz’s current annual salary at 1.5 million euros. In the future, he should only collect a good half of this sum, namely 800,000 euros. The financial losses due to the Corona crisis are forcing the people of Domstadt to take a defensive approach.

No upper salary limit at 1. FC Köln

1. FC Köln has suffered over 80 million euros in losses since the beginning of the pandemic, so the Bundesliga club wants to adjust and reduce salaries accordingly for all new working papers.

However, a salary that is fundamentally and officially capped is not to be expected in this context.

“We don’t have an upper salary limit and I assume that there won’t be one in the future either,” said FC sporting director Jörg Jakobs.

1. FC Köln: Florian Kainz is now a fixture

A departure from Kainz nevertheless threatens the people of Cologne. Only at the weekend did he shine again against Fürth (1-1) when he was one of the best players in his team and contributed the only goal. Accordingly, the Austrian is dissatisfied with the situation surrounding the contract talks.

After years of initial difficulties, Kainz has established himself as a top performer at 1. FC Köln under Baumgart. In the current season, the right-footed player was only not used in the first half of the season against RB Leipzig due to a yellow-red suspension.

For Kainz, the last major contract of his career is at stake, which makes the negotiations even more difficult.
