Open contract negotiations
The future of offensive power Florian Kainz at 1. FC Köln seems uncertain: According to a report by “image“-Zeitung talks about an extension of the contract, which expires at the end of June, are paused. Accordingly, the Bundesliga club made the 29-year-old out of financial constraints an offer that is just over half of his current annual salary.
The newspaper estimates the latter at almost 1.5 million euros, the Cologne offer is said to amount to around 800,000 euros. According to the report, the reason for the sparse approach on the part of the club is the large financial losses that the table night has suffered in the wake of the corona pandemic. Accordingly, a loss of more than 80 million euros is recorded, and all contracts are to be adjusted accordingly in the short and medium term.

Kainz switched from Werder Bremen to the Rhine in January 2019 for a fee of 3 million euros. Almost twelve months later, during a difficult sporting phase under Markus Gisdol and the then managing director Horst Heldt, the Austrian was part of a group of professionals who were allegedly threatened with being thrown out for reasons of performance. In the current season, the left winger is under coach Steffen Baumgart, but was not used in the game against RB Leipzig last September due to a yellow and red suspension. Kainz scored the Cologne goal at 1-1 in Fürth last Saturday and has a total of eight goals (3 goals/5 assists) in 23 games.
Modeste: “If nothing comes from FC, I have to look somehow”
Alongside right-back Benno Schmitz and midfielder Louis Schaub, the offensive force at 1. FC Köln is one of six professionals whose working papers expire at the end of the season. The savings plans will probably also affect other personal details. Top scorer Anthony Modeste is someone who has been hoping for a signature in the FC environment for weeks. The 33-year-old again signaled his willingness on Sunday – but at the same time indicated that he did not want to wait too long.

“The club knows what to do. In the end I need a little security. I’m 33 years old turning 34 but I feel in top shape. Let’s see what happens,” the Frenchman said in the “imagequoted. In this age group there have only been two million transfers in Bundesliga history with Naldo and Ivica Olic, Modeste could be the third in view of his current hit rate.
The striker is not stressed, but is aware that “if we don’t find a solution and I feel like playing football, I have to think about something else. That’s already clear. If nothing comes from FC, then I have to look somehow.”
