Less than a month after being promoted to first-choice goalkeeper at Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln, Marvin Schwäbe will likely have to vacate the space between the posts for his rival Timo Horn.
Because of his infection with the corona virus, there is at least a big question mark behind the use of the 26-year-old in the game on Saturday (6:30 p.m. / Sky) against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Despite the confirmation of the positive result, Cologne coach Steffen Baumgart did not want to completely write off the native of Hesse for the encounter.
“For Saturday, that means that there is a high probability that he will not be there,” said the coach after training on Tuesday.
Baumgart did not give any more detailed information about Schwäbe’s state of health: “I can’t say 100 percent how he’s doing because I haven’t called him yet.”
Schwäbe had replaced Horn as number one in the fall. Although a corona infection preceded Horn’s demotion at the time, Schwäbe apparently does not have to fear a reversal of the events.
“I had committed myself to the summer. I’m not someone who constantly turns and turns,” Baumgart said after Schwäbe’s findings in the Bild newspaper.
