“Too far away”
A return of ex-national player Mark Uth to the training operations of Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln is currently not foreseeable. “We don’t need to talk about Mark. He’s too far away. Of everything,” said coach Steffen Baumgart on Tuesday.
“The fact is that he is not available at the moment. And I can’t say when. That’s why we don’t have to open the topic anymore,” the 51-year-old continued. Uth made his comeback in the first round of the DFB Cup in Osnabrück on August 14 after nine months and three operations on his pubic bone. However, the 32-year-old had to be replaced early and has not been in training since then. Baumgart does not want to make any more forecasts in the future.
“We have already given seven forecasts. I don’t want this egg dance anymore,” said the coach. “Forecasts are not effective and I don’t get up on hope. I don’t have to say, we’re hoping for him in three weeks – all nonsense.” Uth works well, “he doesn’t lean back. We’ll see when the sign comes that he’s ready again. But first he has to work his way into the area so that he is suitable for the Bundesliga again. Because he isn’t at the moment.”
The striker was free in 2021 and returned to his first professional post in the cathedral city after a previous loan from FC Schalke 04. During the 2021/22 season, he was one of the top scorers in FC ranks with 13 goals in 30 games, since the summer of 2022 there have only been six appearances. Of Uth’s 2018 peak market value of 23 million euros, 1.5 million euros are still left today, his contract on the Rhine runs until 2025.
