1. FC Köln: Kessler confirms Ehizibue’s move to Udinese Calcio

FC waves fee

Kingsley Ehizibue was already faced with a move to Serie A, but dropped the transfer to FC Genoa in winter 2019 and opted for 1. FC Köln the following summer. Now the right-back will probably be drawn to Italy on the second try. A report by the Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzioaccording to which Udinese Calcio want to sign the 27-year-old, confirmed Thomas Kessler, Head of Licenses at FC, on Sunday.

“The decision hasn’t been made 100 percent yet, but the tendency is already towards a transfer at Easy,” said Kessler after the 0-0 draw against VfB Stuttgart. The Munich-born Dutchman with Nigerian roots was not in the squad for the second time in a row. However, he even came on as a substitute in the 3-0 win in the Conference League playoff second leg at Fehérvár FC.

Di Marzio initially reported on August 21 that Ehizibue was expected in Udine to complete the mandatory medical check. At that time, there was a transfer fee of 1.5 million euros for the right foot, whose contract with FC is still valid until 2023. After the departure of Brandon Soppy (20), he is supposed to strengthen the right side of defense at the Serie A club. Arsenal professional Héctor Bellerín (27) was last traded in this position.

A rental fee of EUR 5.7 million had already been paid beforehand

Previously, the defender had always been part of the matchday team this season, but only managed 81 minutes of action. In total, he has made 76 appearances (one goal/three assists) since his €2m transfer from PEC Zwolle in 2019. He was never able to assert himself in the long term, not even under coach Steffen Baumgart, who relies on Benno Schmitz (27). Another replacement is available in Kingsley Schindler (29). The financially ailing FC has so far taken 10.8 million euros from sales this summer, in return new recruits have come to Cologne for a total of 6.3 million euros.
