Lukas Podolski intervened in the search for the board of 1. FC Köln. The club legend supports the mobile phone entrepreneur Wilke power.
In September, the members of the 1. FC Köln choose a new board. The current trio, President Werner Wolf as well as the two deputies Eckhard Sauren and Carsten Wettich, had recently announced that they could no longer compete together. A possible candidate for the chief position now receives prominent support: Lukas Podolski has spoken out for Wilke Strom.
Strom, as the founder of the Sparkhandy.de company, a long-time partner Podolskis, would like to have the previous Vice Wettich and the former FC player Tugba Tekkal set up. Wettich had confirmed this in turn a week and a half ago.
“Wilke is a good candidate for the office of president,” Podolski told Sport Bild and explains: “He is a successful entrepreneur, loves FC, is a positive personality in our city, is committed to children, does a lot in the carnival, sings in a men’s choir.”
This sounds like a clear recommendation to the member council, which is currently concerned with the search for board candidates and wants to propose a trio in June. Quite a few FC supporters would probably like Podolski as a new president. However, the 39-year-old, who is currently thinking about a continuation of his career at the Polish first division club Gornik Zabrze, is not yet striving for a position at his heart’s club.
Instead, Podolski speaks for power. “What I like at Wilke: He tackles. He has made a small idea with his company. He is a guy who would do the club really good. Young, hungry, successful,” the world champion from 2014 lists the advantages of the 44-year-old, and comes to the decision: “As a member of the association, I say: If Wilke starts, he gets my voice.”
Podolski’s support should certainly not harm the ambitions of electricity, Wettich and Tekkal, which would be the first female member of a FC Presidium. In general, the FC icon wishes: “A jerk has to go through the club so that everyone marches in the same direction: fans, board, member council, team, management, city.”
At the same time, Podolski appeals: “The constant power struggles do not help. The only ensure that we are not as successful as other clubs in the Bundesliga with similar structures.” In his opinion, power would be the suitable president to lead FC into a better future.
