Dispute over Potocnik change
The penalty for 1. FC Köln in the transfer dispute with NK Olimpija Ljubljana was suspended by the International Sports Court on Friday evening until the appeal decision. The Bundesliga club had previously requested this from CAS. If the negotiation of the appeal in the case of the Potocnik change drags on – which can take up to six months – the Cologne team could sign players in the summer. The world football association FIFA issued a transfer ban for two transfer periods against the Cologne team at the end of March.
Likewise, Jaka Cuber Potocnik’s four-month ban has been suspended. “This means that FC is able to act in preparation for the 2023/24 season. Leart Paqarada’s commitment, which was made at the beginning of January, is valid. The left-back is allowed to switch to FC in the summer and is therefore also eligible to play. It is not yet possible to predict when a final CAS appeal judgment can be expected,” said a statement by the Cologne-based company.

FC Managing Director Christian Keller said: “The CAS decision to suspend the transfer ban is important for us. Now we can become active in the transfer market within the limits of our possibilities due to economic consolidation. At the same time, we know that the penalty suspension is only a first step in preventing the transfer ban. We will therefore continue to work hard to completely avert the FIFA verdict.”
The #effzeh was informed this evening by the International Court of Arbitration for Sport CAS that the sentence in the Jaka Potocnik case will be suspended until the appeal decision.
The transfer ban is therefore not initially effective.
