1. FC Köln continue to work on their squad for the future. After Davie Selke, other top performers are to extend their contracts with the Bundesliga soccer team.
As “Bild” reports, 1. FC Köln want to retain Marvin Schwäbe, Benno Schmitz and Jan Thielmann in the long term.
Schwäbe has long been the undisputed number one in the cathedral city. The 28-year-old will probably remain loyal to 1. FC Köln. The goalkeeper is said to extend his contract, which runs until 2024, to 2026.
Right-back Schmitz apparently received a working paper for the same term at 1. FC Köln. According to the tabloid, the 28-year-old made it clear that he wanted to stay with the traditional club.
Thielmann could be the third Effzeh star around Bunde to sign until 2026, “Bild” speculates. The 21-year-old is only tied to Cologne until 2024, but should also see his future in Müngersdorf.
In the case of young hope Justin Diehl (contract until 2024), those responsible will have to be patient. With Kristian Pedersen and Dimitrios Limnios (both until 2024), 1. FC Köln apparently want to wait and see themselves.
1. FC Köln extended with Selke
Most recently, the Rhinelanders had extended until 2026 with Davie Selke. The attacker only switched from Hertha BSC to 1. FC Köln in January.
The 28-year-old “fits in very well with FC not only as a player, but above all as a person,” said managing director Christian Keller in the club’s official statement. The 28-year-old also knows “that he is far from having reached the end of his possibilities”.
“I think everything has happened that we had promised from my move to Cologne. I like the way football is played at FC and I think it suits me perfectly. I was there from the start enthusiastic about 1. FC Köln – about the fans and the atmosphere at the home games,” enthused Selke.
