Without a club since summer
1. FC Kaiserslautern has made a top-class defensive transfer. As the Palatinate team announced on Wednesday evening, the clubless Almamy Touré is moving to FCK with immediate effect. The 27-year-old played 81 times for Eintracht Frankfurt between the beginning of 2019 and summer 2023 and became Europa League winners with the Hessen team in 2022.
“Bild” reported for the first time at the beginning of November that Kaiserslautern was dealing with Touré and had already been in contact with the players weeks before. The second division team has a need in defense. 25 goals have been conceded after 13 games, only three league rivals have conceded more. In addition, Boris Tomiak, for example, is not available for action due to a red card suspension.
FCK managing director Thomas Hengen explained the Touré transfer: “It is of course a stroke of luck when a player like Almamy Touré works with us and also has the same ambitions. For him, the sporting challenge and the platform it offered him were much more important than the monetary aspect, otherwise we wouldn’t have come together. With his experience and his individual quality, he can increase the competition in the squad and in depth. We are convinced that he will fit in well with the existing team and help us.”
Almamy Touré: Back to a higher-class club via 1. FC Kaiserslautern?
Touré said: “I am happy to be here and that a traditional club like 1. FC Kaiserslautern allows me to be back in German professional football. It’s a top address where I hope to get back to my old strengths as quickly as possible. I want to repay the trust in myself with performance and have a successful season together with the team.”

As indicated by Hengen, Touré could pursue the plan of getting back into the sights of higher-class clubs with strong performances in tenth place in the table. According to reports, staying with the SGE failed due to the different ideas between the club and the players when it came to salary. The Malian, who once moved from AS Monaco to SGE for 750,000 euros, is said to have received an annual salary of 1.6 million euros. As part of an extension, he asked for an increase to around 2 million euros including bonuses. It seems certain that with the “Red Devils” he will have to accept significant financial compromises.
