1. FC Heidenheim: record player Marc Schnatterer ends his career

No longer set for Mannheim

Midfielder Marc Schnatterer will end his career at the end of the season in the SV Waldhof Mannheim jersey. This was announced by the record player from 1. FC Heidenheim on Saturday after the third division team’s 2-1 (0-1) win over SC Freiburg II. “The decision was made with my family at the end of March and now is the right time to make it public,” said Schnatterer. “I’ll be 38 at the end of the year and I’m grateful that I was able to play at this level until the end.”

Before moving to Mannheim in the summer of 2021, Schnatterer had played for Heidenheim for 13 years and achieved cult status as an offensive player at FCH. With the club from the Swabian Alb, he rose from the regional league to the second division – and almost made it into the Bundesliga with him in 2020. At that time, however, Heidenheim failed in the relegation to Werder Bremen. Schnatterer made 224 appearances in the second division for FCH, scoring 48 goals and making a total of 457 appearances. After his move to Mannheim, he was no longer able to go beyond the role of a supplementary player.
